How To Stop Quitting Your Diet

Woman Thinking

Wanting to quit is part of the process. It's just human nature. It’s not a question of “if” you’re going to want to quit along the way., it’s a question of “what” you’re going to do when you inevitably feel like quitting.

But wanting to quit, and actually quitting, are two completely different things. Just because you feel like doing something doesn't mean that you have to do it. And just because you don't feel like doing something, doesn't mean that you have to stop doing it.

Any worthwhile journey will have ups and downs. This is absolutely inevitable. When we’re frustrated is when the real work begins. It’s not always smooth sailing. We can’t give up every time we feel frustrated.

Think about a time in your life when you persevered, or when you wanted to give up but didn’t. Isn't it odd that we persist with so many things in life, but when it comes to our health, we have a moment of weakness and we want to give up.

Why do we have so much patience when it comes to everything else but when it comes to our health we have very little, even though there is nothing more important than our health.

Don’t quit because now isn’t a good time.

We either achieve our goals or rationalise them away. That desire never goes away. Clearly, there’s a part of you that wants to lose the weight. Otherwise you would never have started the journey.

The truth is that there’s never a great time to lose weight. There’s always something going on. So don't let that be a reason to quit.

Don’t quit because you feel like you’re having a breakdown.

Breakthroughs often feel like breakdowns. The breakthrough is pushing through even though you feel like quitting. When you make it through a rough patch you’re going to be so happy you stuck with it. Not only that but you will show yourself that you're capable of exerting your willpower in this way and this makes your willpower even stronger.

Don’t quit because of the discomfort.

If you can put up with a bit of discomfort now, you can have achieve a state where you feel much more comfortable on a daily basis.

Don’t quit because of what you’re “giving up”.

Keep the focus on all the reasons why you want to lose weight. When you feel like quitting, just remind yourself of what you'll actually be gaining once you've lost the weight.

Don’t quit because you feel like it's going too slowly.

Sometimes it takes small steps to achieve your goal, but if you take enough of them you'll get there. Don't be discouraged because you "only" lost quarter of a kilo this week. Every small gain counts! Keep going!
